Pittsfield Bridge – July 10, 2020 – Existing Condition
The project consists of replacement of a functionally deficient one-lane structure built in 1910, with a new structure consisting of pre-stressed concrete spread box beams, integral abutments founded on steel H-piles, concrete deck and concrete approach slabs. The existing bridge provides the only access over Blockhouse Run to Damascus Steel Casting Company and must remain open while the new bridge is constructed. The current weight limit restriction on the existing bridge cannot be reduced any further due to the heavy industrial traffic, necessitating the replacement of the bridge.
